Antiwork

My work wanted me to do an extra on call shift because I ‘missed’ the last one. I didn’t miss it, I was off sick with covid.

I work in the U.K. i work in a job where we do on call shifts once we shut for emergencies (shut at 6pm, open at 8:30am next day). So every single night one of the staff members covers the shift. If we are called in we must turn up no matter what time. We can stay at home for these but the pay is terrible. It’s £25 for the entire thing 6pm-8:30am. This is our retainer fee. Yes. This is legal. We only get paid hourly if we get called into work. We are on cal on a rota basis. This goes for weekends too. I could not work on Saturday (my scheduled on call shift, which was 8:30am-8:30am Sunday) because I was sick with covid. It was covered by 2 people who split the 24 hours into 12 hours each. They told me I wouldn’t owe it back…

I could not work on Saturday (my scheduled on call shift, which was 8:30am-8:30am Sunday) because I was sick with covid. It was covered by 2 people who split the 24 hours into 12 hours each. They told me I wouldn’t owe it back to these people

Yesterday (Tuesday) at work they asked me to do the on call for that night because person A was scheduled on but was sent home sick with covid.

My boss asked me to work that shift that night. I had plans so said no. They said that I ‘missed’ my Saturday on call. I corrected them and said I didn’t miss it I was unable and not fit to work because off sick with covid (I was very unwell).

They said I don’t help out and my line manager had to do it. I thought that was the role of a line manager.

Was I right in saying I didn’t miss the shift. I was sick and that i didn’t need to owe it back due to sickness since I was told I wouldn’t need to owe it back. They’re making feel terrible for it. I couldn’t help thatI
