I'm not trying to lose my job by coming off too strong. I've been hired as an engineer in a very small startup and the only other coworker I had quit a couple weeks ago. I've not done any real engineering assignments since we do not have a laboratory set up yet. When I was hired I was told the new lab was being leased and set up in a month – it's about to be 5 months.
These past 4 weeks, my tasks have involved cleaning… and moving stuff around for this new lab. I'm tired of waiting for this phase to be over but I feel like I have been getting some attitude for complaining or not being a “team player”. I don't recall these kinds of tasks would be expected of me as they've never have in my previous roles and were not mentioned during my interviewing process… I even feel they are a little degrading considering my background. Makes me feel like my brain is rusting and I'm not learning any new skill that I'm interested in professionally, just doing admin tasks.
I don't know what is the right way to complain about this but I feel very burnt out and I do not feel like I'm being treated fairly as these couple of months make me feel like I'm wasting my time. Is it too early for me to look somewhere else? Do I need more patience? Would appreciate any advice.
