Need advice about Background checks

I worked for a company for two years and left to work for a different company. They screwed me over within a month and the job fell through. I didn’t update my resume. It still says, “Company – 2020- current.” Flash forward five months, over 200 resumes and applications, and 39 interviews – no job offers. I had an interview a week and half ago that I blew out of the water, but they wanted relevant information about my working experience and about my current position. So, I lied. I said that I was still working there. I couldn’t bring myself to admit that the company screwed me, I left and it fell through and now I’m unemployed. They asked for references and I gave them two friends of mine who worked with me in the first company. They also lied and said I still worked there. Now I’m setting…

Now I’m setting up the background check and am freaking out because I have to give an end date to the first company, but I can say “do not contact this company.”

How much is the background check really looked/worth.

Everything else is spotless, no criminal record, nothing.

What do I do?
