A little backstory. I work at a public 4-year university as a Technology Specialist. I order all the technology (computers, projectors, servers, etc.) for a state university. We also have a storefront that serves the students and local community. When I took over two years ago, the store was in the red. As of the end of June 30, 2022, we posted $1.2M in sales and were $100k in the black.
Today, the Finance and Administration Office head told me that my department will shut down permanently on June 30, 2023. Long story short, office politics were the root of it all, and it was faction against faction. When I transferred to the Technology Specialist position, I was told I would still have to work in my former position as a Graphic Designer with 20 years of experience. (I'm 37, btw)
Before I became the Graphic Designer 7 years ago, I worked as the OSHA/ADA/Traffic Safety Compliance Coordinator and made all signage related on campus. When that job was combined with the internal Graphic Design department, I was told I would still have to remain the OSHA/ADA Compliance Coordinator.
Basically, for this public 4-year state university, I am the Technology Specialist, Graphic Designer, and OSHA/ADA Compliance Coordinator rolled into one. Ready for the kicker? I currently make $15/hour. I live in a rural, southern part of the US.
One of the perks of taking on the Technology Specialist role is that I would get a $0.50 raise and could take courses to earn my MBA, which is paid for by the University. Since I will have 1 class left during the shutdown, I will be allowed to finish my degree. I currently earning an MBA with a concentration in Human Resources with a 4.0 GPA.
I'm staring down the barrel of a layoff in 8 months for the first time in 12 years. If I have to pivot with my skills, what job would give me the most stability, allow me to work from home, and at least keep my current pay rate? My resume and LinkedIn are ready to go. Should I make one resume listing all the skills I have acquired or make 2 or 3 different resumes tailored to the different roles I have worked?
