I'm waiting to hear about a job. I was wishy-washy about my salary requirements in the interview stages because I'm new to the industry and wasn't sure what to ask for. I think the interviews went really well, and I think there is a good chance I could get the job.
I am genuinely excited about the work, but I want more money than the base pay they mentioned. Especially given cost of living and student loans and how challenging this particular kind of job is. Within a year I'm set to finish an advanced degree, and I already have industry experience in the field in the form of ~unpaid internships~ plus relevant work experience from before.
If I get a job offer, and it's not more than the base pay, how should I initiate the conversation of negotiating my pay? I've never done so before.
