So my husband works for a company that provides some employees w/ a company vehicle. Six plus months ago my husband’s company vehicle needed some repairs. Due to the cost/age of the vehicle his boss decided to sell his company car.
His boss asked him if he could drive his personal vehicle for two weeks while he got a replacement. My husband agreed and we have this exchange documented via text. It has now been almost seven months and he is still driving his personal vehicle.
My husband is driving our secondary vehicle-which is old and has high mileage. Not the best car he does a ton of driving. We used it primarily on the weekends for short trips to the store. In the past six months we’ve had to put the car in the shop several times. We’ve paid almost 2,000 in repairs.
My question is-my husband’s employment contract states they will provide him with a company vehicle and all cost associated to that. Gas, maintenance, insurance and cleaning is all covered and to be put on his company credit card. It states it is part of his benefits/pay package.
I will say he is getting mileage. Since he is driving his personal vehicle he isn’t allowed to use the company cc to cover gas. With inflation and how many miles he’s put on our vehicle the mileage is no comparison to his previous benefits.
We’ve read his handbook and contract backwards and forwards. Nowhere does it state anything about a personal vehicle.
His boss keeps putting off buying a new vehicle stating he doesn’t want to in “this economy” and to be patient.
Is there anything he can do? I feel like he has lost a huge benefit to his job?
