I’ll try to make this as short as possible, I’ve worked for 2 different Amazon DSP (Delivery Service Providers). When you work “for Amazon” as a delivery driver, you DO NOT actually work for Amazon. You are working for an independent contractor who provides delivery for Amazon, hence the name. FedEx does the same thing. So I worked for this Amazon DSP with the promise of driving a large box truck, 24ft, and maximum of 50stops. The pay started @ $18.50/hr and at the time I was just hopping place to place trying to find my next decent steady job. What they promised at the open interview, an open interview of 2 people including me, was that I would get 40hrs, straps are provided for the trucks, you get a partner to deliver, and maybe you’ll get the smaller 16-18ft cab over trucks when there isn’t too many deliveries. That was okay with me, I was worried about the cab overs since they can hurt your back very easily, you ride on the wheels. Needless to say everything fell apart within one week. As soon as I got in I learned almost everything was total B.S. I started talking with people and they said, “oh those big trucks? Yeah we never use them”, all their trucks are rental trucks, they never have straps to tie down their loads in the truck, everything just swings back and forth, they don’t provide shoulder straps for heavy loads, and most importantly they don’t guarantee 40hrs. Apparently they offer “bonuses” to make up the 40hrs… that they tax you on. So, even if all that wasn’t bad enough, no one actually does a walk around inspection on their truck, which this job requires a CDL C, that means you could easily get a ticket for a light out. My last day I got put in a truck while in training with another new guy as a helper, I wasn’t even “certified” to drive it with Amazon yet, we had to carry a 300lb pool table inside someone’s house since apparently Amazon offers “room of choice deliveries” where you have to deliver it where the customer says, after struggling with that for 1hr, and constantly telling the customer we couldn’t physically fit this item in his basement down 3 stairs, I quit. Seriously f*ck Amazon DSP’s.
Don’t risk your driving record, your back, and get told they would give you a “bonus” for being a “good worker”.
