I just had my first day/new hire orientation after being hired on at a big box store and every bit of it was a red flag.
First off I waited almost an hour for the person training me to show up. Then when he finally did he complained that they’ve been having issues with people not returning to work after orientation and are unable to keep the store fully staffed. He said it was so severe that certain store services and departments were shut down indefinitely (cafe, floral, etc.)…
Then I was placed in a room with another new hire to watch a 40 minute store intro video that was screen recorded off of someone’s phone with partial audio and no subtitles. Super bizarre.
The manager of the department I was hired for then came in to give me my schedule. I had been hired on temporarily as part time until the position I wanted opened up but the manager informed me that the position I initially wanted was now open due to the new hire for that role not returning after their own orientation. He then informed me that the only available position was wildly outside of my stated availability…so I thanked him for his time and stated that I wouldn’t be moving forward with the position.

Suddenly then he found another shift within my availability. I desperately need a job so I accepted it and already regret not walking out. I haven’t had my second day yet and honestly I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go back after that shit show.
