New Job is Forcing me to take a laptop home everyday while refusing to allow for remote work

I'm a contractor in customer support for an automotive company. They tell us that remote work will be hybrid and that the earliest it will come is at 90 days after they figure out how they're going to allow it. I can't help but feel that this is some form of wage theft. We have to show up and start the login process 7-10 minutes before our shift starts. Since we can't leave the laptops at work, it seems like they're using us to provide security for them by placing that burden for non-work time security upon us.

Am I just being pissy about this or do I maybe have something that I should at least bring to a labor lawyer/advocate?
