I'm a contractor in customer support for an automotive company. They tell us that remote work will be hybrid and that the earliest it will come is at 90 days after they figure out how they're going to allow it.
In the meantime everyone has to take their work laptop home then bring it back in for work the next day. None of our ids for level 1 has remote access authorization and the procedure for allowing it requires us to be on-site so we can't even use the work laptop in an emergency.
Our time is counted based upon when Avaya One-X signs us in and that's an automated process that starts after signing into Windows. It takes between 2-5 minutes from logging into Windows for it to show us as being on the clock.
I can't help but feel that this is some form of wage theft. We have to show up and start the login process 7-10 minutes before our shift starts. Since we can't leave the laptops at work, it seems like they're using us to provide security for them by placing that burden for non-work time security upon us.
Am I just being pissy about this or do I maybe have something that I should at least bring to a labor lawyer/advocate?
