New job offer; telling my current bosses

So I gave my 2 week notice today. I just got a job offer 20k above the salary at my current company. So my direct supervisor was sad to hear me go and but said he had to ask if the company matched the offer would I consider staying. Now keep in mind I like my direct supervisor he’s had my back on more than one instance, he’s a good guy. His boss on the other hand had denied my raise/bonus for the 2022 year. Despite the fact that i was doing work as a Junior that formerly a Senior had done. It requires a steep learning curve, took me 2 months. But I figured it out and improved the process and have since been at it for the rest of the 2022 year. And continued on in the 2023 year. As of now the total of a year and…

As of now the total of a year and a half working in the Senior stuff. And that doesn’t even account for the good work I did the first 1/2 of the year before taking on the Senior level stuff. So I was good enough to do the senior stuff without the senior salary.

Now I could have understood if he didn’t think I was ready for a promotion to Senior Accountant, but I should have gotten a raise/bonus for what I had been able to accomplish rather getting nothing. My direct supervisor confided with me that he was expecting me to leave the company much earlier because of that.

Today the CFO himself who is 5 levels above me, who depends on the work I do, asked what would it take for me to stay.

And as polite as I could say I am afraid it is too late.

It is almost 2023 and I have bided my time waiting for the perfect position/company. A full year that I was drastically underpaid.

FYI, My current supervisor is retiring soon, and then I’d be forced to work under the boss who doesn’t believe in me, frankly that would leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. Also it’s almost never a good idea to accept a counter offer from your current job. You will be first on the chopping block if there is any layoffs in the future
