new job’s ridiculous PTO policy??

my new job has a PTO policy unlike one I have ever seen, just want to know whether this is common?? first of all, it is a healthcare provider-owned network of clinics, and during orientation they mentioned how they support work-life balance. (lol) basically they do not offer unpaid time off ever. they also don't have a sick day accrual. so if you get sick, you HAVE to take your pto. if you had days off scheduled for next month and you get sick this month and use all your PTO, you no longer are allowed to take your pre-approved time off. if you take your PTO and then get sick I'm not entirely sure what happens?? but I know they're relatively strict about everyone's FTE status, so a 1.00 FTE absolutely HAS to work 40 hr/wk so they maintain their status. if they leave a few minutes early everyday…

it's actually insane, it makes me feel trapped knowing that if I call out due to being sick then I won't be allowed to take time off even if I've been planning it months in advance. I am more than happy to take unpaid time off if I've run out of PTO and I have no idea why that's not allowed.
