I accidentally found this out today. I have been with the company a little under a year. We are all paid hourly as we are technically freelance.
The company has brought on 2 new young women with no experience as part of the 'Women in technology' campaign they adhere to (our job is non technology related so this confuses me….) to help young women make their way up the corporate ladder from day one.
So I have been training them up for the last month and spending all my day multitasking with training them and doing my day to day job.
I was looking up my shifts today on admin and noticed the new employees are labelled as 'specialists'whilst I am labelled as 'skilled' and are on £2 an hour more than me…
I don't consider myself to be paid well at all but I have been working 15 years longer than them and for a starting wage they are doing very nicely for their position u would say. I also have no problem with young people getting paid more than me but when the whole principle is that they are being given a helping hand into the industry because they have no experience, I am the one training them and THEY are called specialists and already getting paid more than me… It's really bugged me.
There is no promotion or pay increase on the horizon for me and I am now no doubt going to watch them rocket past me to the top. And believe me I've put in the effort and work. They had a big problem recently which we had to fix. For a month I was working 7 days a week, sometimes 13 hours a day until 1 am by myself and I didn't even get a thank you. I wasn't at the meeting but our team leader said the high ups moaned that we should have fixed it faster rather than thanking us for getting them out of the mud and getting them a really good client because of it.
Sick of it all and it's leaving me feeling stressed, downhearted and hopeless.
