At my work if you receive more than 18 points you will be fired. I recently returned from vacation and on the day I was due to go back to work I felt sick so I took a Covid test. It was positive. Informed my supervisor & then contacted the 3rd party that managed our short term disability. Got another test at Walgreens, which was positive, & submitted it to my supervisor & the 3rd party company.
My short term was denied. Reason: Although I've worked at my company since Feb, 2021, I was a contract employee until 10 months ago. Less than the year required as an actual employee. So I was out pay for a week. Wasn't happy but I could survive the hit.
I found out the other night that I was given 10 points for the missed week. The new policy, enacted while I was in vacation, is that if you cannot apply pto or short/long term disability for any absence, you will be given points. Used my PTO to go on vacation.
I also broke my thumb at work in July when a machine dropped on my thumb. It malfunctioned. I left work early to go to the med clinic for treatment. I was given 2 points for leaving work early that shift. Let that sink in for a minute.
Next time I get COVID (I'm fully vaccinated & have 1 booster) I will have to choose between keeping my job & potentially infecting my fellow employees.
Good policy, right?
