I work for a religious, conservative chiropractic office that does not clean in between patients or wash hands often because “germs are good for you”. I, and one other co-worker, are the only ones who actually clean and sanitize. The head chiropractor just got over a month long case of laryngitis and who knows what else. I had to call in sick one day last week and the office/billing managers barely even looked at me, as if they were disgusted that I called out. There is constant pressure to go out with other co-workers to lunch and spend money when I honestly live paycheck to paycheck. They have ‘Christmas money’ envelopes where you are strongly encouraged to donate $25 to each chiropractor for a Christmas gift, $25 to the head chiropractor’s wife, and $10 to the secondary chiro’s wife. And, my last paycheck fell on a bank holiday, and they failed to notify me that my check would be at least 4 days late. I told them I needed my entire check as I had numerous bills due and they actually brought me a cash advance, which was nice. But they completely expected me to be ok with no money, and no notice. I want to leave this job so bad but I have so many bills to pay and I’m terrified of financial uncertainty. Just looking for encouragement and for others to see how toxic this workplace is.
