So currently in the UK, we are experiencing one of the hottest summers on record. Only a month ago, our government put out an emergency notice telling us not to go to work unless absolutely necessary.
Recently, these past few weeks have been very hot and unbearably humid (though not quite as bad as a month ago). I can’t speak for all people but personally, I have had trouble sleeping because of it. It’s left me drained of energy.
I work in a large open space café, with some very effective air conditioning, which in theory would make the job a whole lot easier.
Except, so far as I know, we cannot turn it on. In fact, I asked the manager why we cannot turn it on, and I was told that we need permission from the person who is in charge of it. And that person in charge of the air conditioning doesn’t actually work in the building. He lives miles away.
Excuse me!? What kind of sense does that make? If we work in a building that has air conditioning/ventilation, then why aren’t we allowed to adjust it ourselves?
The weird thing is, I have noticed this being a pattern with some jobs-in the last job I had, we weren’t allowed to change the aircon unless a customer specifically asked us to.
Has anybody else experienced this at their place of work?
