No Better Than Animals.

I had someone from the group who owns the company I work for whistle at me like a dog to get my attention today. The only reason I'm not calling them out by name is because I don't want my specific location doxxed. Not any of our property's workers or management. Someone from the group who owns the entire enterprise is in for an inspection. Already been treated like crap tonight, yelled at, accused of stealing stuff, regular Monday night. This guy decides he needs to frequent our little snack bar after a night getting wasted with his friends (not allowed when staying on company business, but what do I know, I just work here.) Guy proceeds to just stand in the snack bar area and stare at me. No “excuse me, I'm ready to pay,” no communication at all. Just staring at me. I have someone else come in,…

I have someone else come in, and I start helping him, because he walked right up to me and made it obvious he needed assistance. Snack bar guy proceeds to start whistling at me like he was trying to get a dog's attention. At this point, I admit, I made a mistake. I turn my full attention to the gentleman and asked if we can assist him with his lost animal, as he's whistling loudly in our lobby.

This is when I notice that's it's the man from ownership group. He seems to brush off my prior statement and insists I charge him out, feet away from my terminal, my drawer, everything. I grab a piece of paper and manually record his information, he leaves, and the other man, who has been nothing but patient, mentions in passing: Did he really just whistle at you like a dog to get your attention?

This is someone who OWNS THE ENTIRE COMPANY. This is how they see us. We are literally animals to be summoned, not humans who work for their benefit.

Just heed this warning if you ever apply to major corporations, especially major hoteliers. This is how the people at the top see you.
