I work in a lab that caters mostly to industrial clients (keeping it vague for legal reasons). My job requires 12 hour shifts on a rotating schedule, and is open 24/7/365. There is no drinkable water due to mold somewhere in the system. Samples have been tested internally and sent for third party testing and corporate is aware of the results, and has been for about 6 months but haven’t done anything. I bring at least 3 bottles of water from home everyday, as do most of my coworkers but I go through that most days because I’m on my feet, wearing warm lab coats and often spending time in hot walk-in incubators, making me thirsty. I don’t feel like I should even have to justify why I’m thirsty at work though. I also rarely get breaks long enough to go home or even to a convenience store despite the fact that I am “guaranteed” an hour break every day.
I’d like to add that we do have a separate water system for DI water which is sterile but not appealing to drink, and has a limited quantity at any given time, so depleting it by everyone drinking it would put us behind on time-sensitive tasks.
What do we do??
