“Nobody want’s to work” – KFC manager in Newton, Iowa

Wife asked one of our kids what they wanted for supper. They happily replied “KFC!” Well, we hadn't had that in a while, so we figured “why not?” It is a drive for us, living remote and all – about an hour. We get there, and after ordering, we pull up and pay. The manager is working the window. He practically BEGS us to take the survey on the receipt. We tell him we will, because we just want the conversation to end. He then mentions off-hand that they are short staffed, and all the employees are from other stores across the area. Apparently, everybody had quit from that location, from management on down. That's when he pipes up with “Nobody wants to work anymore!” I reply “I don't think that's true. They want to work. I see people getting jobs all the time. They just don't want to work…

Well, we hadn't had that in a while, so we figured “why not?” It is a drive for us, living remote and all – about an hour.

That's when he pipes up with “Nobody wants to work anymore!”

I reply “I don't think that's true. They want to work. I see people getting jobs all the time. They just don't want to work for YOU.”

He gets quiet, and backpedals, realizing I wasn't on his side. He then tries to come at it from a different angle with “But we pay good wages”, to which I respond “It's not always about the money.”

He gives up, but I'm fired up at this point, so I add one more quip after receiving my food (still good food, not going to knock them for that) “I have a 16-year-old, and I wouldn't let him work here. He's worth more than this job”

I've never posted here, and I have a good job, so I didn't expect to ever post here, but what the manager at that KFC said just got me so worked up, I had to share.
