I’m going to come into a not insignificant amount of money in inheritance soon. One of my long term goals with this is to try and set up free housing in my city for the homeless to help them get their feet under them so they can save up and move into a nicer place if they wish. Was unable to find anything that had been attempted with this in the states, just a lot of theory but no proof of concept. Was curious if you all had heard of anything similar in the US.
The goal of the place would be to be completely non-profit. Perhaps set up in remodeled hotels, with breakfast and dinners provided in a common room. The conference halls would allow us to do workshops to teach skills. We could hire on the residents or ask for volunteers to staff kitchen, perform basic maintenance, etc. Obviously this is no where near as effective financially as the government just doing it, but if it can be proven to work it could start a push to treat the homeless as people as opposed to parasites.
