Not accepting holiday

(Work part time whilst studying) I requested 8 days off two weeks ago, as my and my gf are going on vacation, and before submitting my request I double checked with my manager if it would be fine. She said it would most likely be accepted and I’d probably be fine to book the flights – which I did and they cost a few hundred £’s. I presumed my manager authorised all holiday, but I got the email back today from a name in the company I hadn’t heard of before, saying only 3 out of the 8 days had been accepted. So first thing I do is message my manager saying something like ‘you told me it’d be fine’ and she said ‘nothing I can do now’. I requested 8 days off two weeks ago, as my and my gf are going on vacation, and before submitting my request I double checked with my manager if it would be fine. I’ve explained to her I will in fact be on holiday for the entire 8 days whether she likes it or not, and she still has two weeks to find cover for me. She read the message on whatsapp without response, but I imagine she will tell me I will face some sort of disciplinary if I stay on vacation for the entire 8 days. What is it with managers promising things which they can’t guarantee? If it’s going to be an issue she needs to specify this with me exactly instead of pretending everything is fine when it quite clearly isn’t. I WILL be sticking to the non-refundable flight times, if they don’t like it there are other jobs that will value my experience.
