Something I've noticed at my job [manufacturing in a regulated industry] is that we have people working remotely whenever, when like, their jobs really can't be done remotely. This is mainly a gripe I have about supplier quality, but other orgs like procurement and development do this too. What happens is that everyone comes back to mfg/ops like “can you measure these parts for me” and “can you do a count” etc etc, when like, that's your fucking job.
It's a weird place to be in because like, yeah, I don't really fuck with the concept of “work”, but I feel like at least my group is constantly being asked to pick up the slack (boss knows, he's said we can say no), but it's still wildly frustrating cos my company is like, bending over backwards to essentially hire people at all while farming out their job responsibilities to those of us that can't be remote lmfao. And it's a big old argument every time my dept asks for more headcount.
Obviously the real problem is not hiring enough people to do the work (both from approving additional headcount, and being able to retain that headcount), but man it sure is fucking annoying rn.
