So today was my first day it was supposed to be this Monday but the other cook called out and I was the only other experienced cook on hand so he called me in. When I got there he was standing at the entrance waiting for me and handed me a $20 visa card for coming in, which I was really greatful for because it wasn't one of those wack care packages I've been seeing on here lately. He explained that the other cook that was supposed to be there with me also called out. So i was in the kitchen all alone. He also told me not to worry and that I can take as long as I need to get the job done properly.
He was explaining to the customers that it would be a 45min-1hr wait because we were severely understaffed. He kept coming into the kitchen to check if the stress was getting to me, asking me if I was alright and if I needed to step out for a little break or anything at all. I could see the stress was definitely getting to him with all the sweat on his forehead, I could see more and more gathering every time he came from foh to boh.
Of course I was struggling to keep up with the orders coming in, But I kept pushing. By the end of the day at 11pm we started talking with each other while cleaning up. He was telling me how he wished he had more time with his family and how he works 70hrs a week for this company and how ridiculous it was that he had to be there every day for 10 hours. The man misses his kids so much .
