Not only is it pathetic that we have to work as much as we do, but we’re also expected to save as we can for retirement

EDIT: Title derp. It was supposed to say “save as much as we can for retirement” I've been putting money away in a retirement account for a while, but I was curious how much it would actually take to retire at around 45, which is obviously a very aggressive goal (and it ranges anywhere from 2.5-4.5 million, depending on how much you'd live on per year after retiring), and ended up actually crunching the retirement numbers just to see it all laid out. Almost every website that I visited that gave advice boiled down to the same thing: If you really want to get ahead for retirement, put away all of your spare money. If it's not critical to your survival, then don't spend it, and instead invest in your retirement. So… life already fucking sucks because we have to work 40 hours per week (at a minimum) and we…

I've been putting money away in a retirement account for a while, but I was curious how much it would actually take to retire at around 45, which is obviously a very aggressive goal (and it ranges anywhere from 2.5-4.5 million, depending on how much you'd live on per year after retiring), and ended up actually crunching the retirement numbers just to see it all laid out. Almost every website that I visited that gave advice boiled down to the same thing: If you really want to get ahead for retirement, put away all of your spare money. If it's not critical to your survival, then don't spend it, and instead invest in your retirement.

So… life already fucking sucks because we have to work 40 hours per week (at a minimum) and we have to do that until our late 60s. But we can't enjoy our actual life while we're living it, because we have to save for retirement! So we're stuck working, putting away every penny for when we retire… when we'll be too old to actually do or enjoy anything anyways. Then what's the fucking point?!?

I know that we all know this, and obviously most people don't put away every spare penny towards retirement. It's just so unbelievably fucking frustrating to see it all laid out like that. We really do exist to make companies money, and that's it. We're not meant to actually enjoy or life live. I saw a video the other day of a guy who would go around to random fast food/grocery store billboard signs and was trying to get plungers to stick to them while just flipping them through the air. Can you even imagine having enough free time to not only do that (some of the stuff he was able to do was actually surprisingly impressive), but to be able to enjoy it? If I somehow was able to do something that stupid in my free time, I'd just be stressing at the back of my mind about all of the other shit I had to do that was actually important.
