It actually makes perfect sense. You are saying you are okay with either party and since one party wins more than the other (Republicans) mostly because people don't show up to vote. You are passively allowing them to win.
Blind tests in America show that roughly 2/3rds of Americans are liberal but less than 20% show up to vote Democrat. That's why a non-vote or checking out of politics is being a conservative in America.
I hate politics as much as everyone else now, but I learned the parties do the same thing every time and Democrats are the only ones looking out for me and my values. I don't pay any attention anymore. Zero. I know when election day is and I show up and vote all democratic and go home. My level of politics is 15 minutes every year.
There is no excuse for not doing that unless you actually believe in regressive politics and the direction of the country.
Don't fall for the rhetoric either, Republicans have held the ability to prevent legislation from happening since 1998 with the exception of the first two years of Obama. They are in control of the government for 36 of the last 44 years.
