Observing this sub from Australia, I’m just flabbergasted at how atrocious labour laws (or lack thereof) in the US are

And that a people that are so big about going on about “mUh rIgHtZ n FreeDuMbs” have by far the worst in the developed world. 95% of the posts I see here would be illegal or wouldn't happen in Australia, such as: Your boss can fire you at any time and for no reason at all. I believe you call it 'at will'. This to me is by far the most shocking and disturbing. Here, they can only fire you for a few legally defined reasons. Even if you're underperforming or do something wrong, they have to give you multiple warnings before they can let you go. They also need to prove they did everything they could to help you improve. This provides at least some security in your job, and also means employees can't be bullied as easily. Your boss can't just fire you because they don't like you.…

  • Your boss can fire you at any time and for no reason at all. I believe you call it 'at will'. This to me is by far the most shocking and disturbing. Here, they can only fire you for a few legally defined reasons. Even if you're underperforming or do something wrong, they have to give you multiple warnings before they can let you go. • Every employee here gets a legally guaranteed minimum 4 weeks annual leave, 10 sick days, and 10-12 paid (or day off) public holidays per year. Even part time staff get this, but it's pro-rata'd. And everywhere I've worked, I've been encouraged (or even forced) to use these.

  • Employers must pay 10% on top of your salary to your superannuation (retirement) fund

  • Our healthcare isn't tied to our job. You're covered even if you're unemployed.

  • A decent minimum wage. Now don't get me wrong, it needs to be higher than it is, but it's far more generous than what many low wage Americans are paid.

And there's probably other things that I'm forgetting. These things were hard fought for over decades, with strong union movements. Why did Americans not fight for anything, why do you accept this crap?

I really believe that with your healthcare being tied to your job and the being fired for no reason, you're pretty much just indentured slaves. And it's fully intentional.
