Office Manager contacted us about annual Christmas gift for our boss

I work at a small physical therapy office that is owned by my boss. He also owns two other offices — we all work within one network. This is my first year working here. Today, my coworker and I recieved a text from the office manager at the main office telling us that she was planning on shopping for and purchasing our boss’ annual Christmas gift. She also stated they were recommending we all contribute $20-$30 each toward this gift. Is it normal to essentially give money you’re paid by your boss back to them in the form of a Christmas gift? It feels crazy to me that everyone from all three offices is on board with this. Not to mention, we were all asked for money about 2 months ago to contribute to my boss’ birthday gift! I declined and said I unfortunately couldn’t afford that at the time.…

Is it normal to essentially give money you’re paid by your boss back to them in the form of a Christmas gift? It feels crazy to me that everyone from all three offices is on board with this.

Not to mention, we were all asked for money about 2 months ago to contribute to my boss’ birthday gift! I declined and said I unfortunately couldn’t afford that at the time. Her comment today about a “recommended price range” made me feel like she wasn’t asking this time but telling.

How would you feel in this situation? Would you contribute any money?
