Dramatic yes, true, yes. My sister and I were talking about the family business trying to lure us back. I've been working in offices since I was 16, my sister, 18.
Office work is far superior to other jobs we've held that didn't allow us to sit down, on the surface as far as how we were treated as employees and often the pay was higher. But we realized the reason we'd both rather make less than ever voluntarily walk back into one of those cheap carpeted, mold infested, artificially lighted environments: it steals all of your energy.
We've both worked physically demanding jobs with abusive managers, but we still had energy to go out with friends, run errands, and do life chores. Every single time either of us has worked in an office, we only had energy to veg on the couch. Was it age? Nope, we've experienced both over the course of our lives. I actually have an invisible disability that causes severe back and hip pain when standing all day, still managed to stand in line later in the night for film festivals or parties with occupied couches after my retail job.
If anyone knows why this is happening, we are both genuinely curious.
