Old co worker reached out about a position that was open, after discussing they offered the job and then ghosted?

They texted me on their personal phone towards the end of October. During our exchanges, they would take 2 days to responds sometimes which didn’t bother me as I wasn’t very eager until I was curious when I was gonna start. After a week of going back and forth about benefits, the job description and other things they said I had the job and I just needed to send my resume so they could show their boss. I did not lie on my resume to be clear. Well two days after this I sent them a text asking if there were any updates. They apologized and said there boss was crazy busy and they (my co worker) had been out sick with pneumonia for the last few days but that I’d hear back “ASAP!” Well that was last Tuesday…. I sent a text this Monday asking if anything had changed…

Well that was last Tuesday…. I sent a text this Monday asking if anything had changed – and let them know I had another opportunity but I didn’t wanna accept if this was gonna pan out.

Radio silence. I’d expect this of a recruiter. But this co worker and I know each other personally. I feel like it’s way more trouble to ghost someone who you’ve been texting, that has your personal number then simply just letting them know you went with someone else?

It’s not like they have to have a awkward phone call. It’s just super weird. I know that within these 7 days they would’ve been able to at least text/email their boss my resume. It’s so weird having this happen by a old co worker.

Is it worth it to call the company and ask to speak to the boss? I definitely won’t be contacting the co worker again. It’s a good job opportunity.
