I remember when the starting wage was raised when I worked at Walmart. That day, the older folk in the breakroom were raging.
We fight for a higher starting wage. The older generations fight against us the whole time. When we succeed in increasing hiring wages, they get pissed when their wage isn't increased with ours.
The issue was never that our wages were sufficient. They just knew damn well that their work was worth more than they're being compensated.
I do think all wages need increased at least with inflation. But what they truly wanted was for the younger generation to suffer like they suffered. To believe their suffering was for some sort of purpose. They “earned” their higher wages through decades of under-compensation.
It's sad how many people are indoctrinated to worship an exploitative system.
