On Personal leave of absence

Yesterday I posted a question on an amazon subreddit about how to work with not having enough time to take off. My vacation is December 15th – Jan 2nd, and even if I save all my PTO and Vacation starting from the beginning of this month, I still wouldn't have enough time to take off. Some people suggested taking a personal leave of absence. I didn't know this was a thing, but it was really easy to request so I did it. I later returned to my OG post to talk about how confused I was when they asked for a reason after requesting the PERSONAL leave of absence. To my surprise people weren't on my side comments things like “of course you have to give a valid reason,” “it's sad employees won't do their job and show up,” and other things. Yesterday I posted a question on an amazon subreddit about how to work with not having enough time to take off. I don't plan on staying at amazon forever, I just have to finish college. So, I don't know if this is the norm at other jobs, since this is only my second job. I would understand needing proof for something like a medical leave, but personal? Wow. And it was honestly a little heartbreaking seeing so many people justifying why it's okay. Although this is a post about a leave of absence, it's really so much more than that. If I were to leave amazon today they wouldn't notice and actually they're used to people leaving. It leaves me confused as to why people defend so many companies like amazon. I don't understand why people are so okay with the bare minimum. It makes me feel like we'll never make progress.
