My manager came during a time with a busy workload when we were already short-staffed to tell my team we need to do our jobs. When I pointed out that all the things he was saying were the most basic of our duties, he berated me in front of my colleagues and shared a mistake I had made last week. I laughed at him and pointed out that my entire job is fixing other people’s mistakes, and that human error is inevitable. He proceeded to say my team was incompetent in earshot of the whole workplace.
I’d like to point out that management never checks in on us, or asks if they can do anything to help things run smoothly, or even listens to our suggestions for improvements. It’s not until something goes wrong that they come in to berate us. And I’m honestly surprised that’s the only mistake I’ve made with the current workload. I found the whole thing extremely stressful and disheartening. Makes me want to do something else with my time.
