One of my coworkers works 100% this week despite her mother and MIL dying

So my female coworker just announced at a meeting that her MIL in dying and her mother is in critical conditions. She has a child. Despite her situation at home she felt the need to ensure she is working 100% this week and is available 24/7 if we have a problem. The bosses told her thanks for still being present and “we try to help you if possible”. They did not grant her a free day or anything. F. our society that people feel like they can't even stay at home when their mother and MIL are short before dying.
