Only allowed one day off a month.

This is a bit of a follow-up to my last post, as I feel like there's more I can add about my work experience to paint a better picture of what my job is like. The biggest example besides our issue of never being able to call out without ridicule is our policy of getting time off. I've seen people come into work after car accidents, with broken arms, the works. It completely blows my mind that they would still come to work even with situations such as those, but I've realized that I don't think anyone even knows they can take time off. About a month ago, I asked my manager for a day off to go with my family to Legoland and she responded saying yes of course, but that would count as my one day off that month.

Confused I asked what she meant, and she said we are only allowed to get one day off a month. We can't ask for any more, and there's no other way to get time off besides call out. That is a complete lie, as we have multiple apps and websites to ask for days off, she just doesn't check them and requires we talk to her directly to ask for anything schedule related. Not to mention I've had a job before when I was 16-18, so I know that California by law gives its workers PTO to use. Being there for 3 months, I know I've acquired a bit of PTO and planned to use it, but I didnt know how and didnt want to ask right then and there so I let the situation slide because I wanted my day off and didn't want to press about it.

A bit later on, after my Legoland trip, the person who owns the chain store showed up for his routine maintenance checks and I took the opportunity to go over my managers head and ask the owner how to use PTO. Not only was he surprised I didn't know how, but was geniuenly helpful and guided me through every step. Even called HR to get my account set up to use PTO right then and there. My manager of course was not happy about this, and was bold enough to go up to me when he was out of the kitchen and ask why I didn't just ask her. I told her it was nothing personal, he was just conveniently there and that was that, but seeing how she was geniuenly upset made me realize that I don't think anyone here knows how to use PTO. I feel like it's not only me, but my coworkers being taken advantage of. They've been treating me differently since I've asked about PTO and have been giving me more praise than usual as well as appointing me incharge of the kitchen when I work and trying to ask me to do more work. I'm practically doing two peoples jobs every time I come in, but I've been half-assing it and doing only what's required of me. If I'm required to do so many things at once, I'd like my pay to reflect that.

Thanks for reading my rant. I'm already going to be looking for a new job when I get home. I initially got this job as a means to get my partner out of a bad home situation. While I'm greatful for what it's given me, money, I know I still don't owe them anything for how they treat me. I work for money and because I am employed, not for their loyalty and not to serve them as an employee the rear if my life. My own manager has apparently been with the company 30 years, and is still shit on by the person who owns the chain store. If things aren't as better for her as they are for me, I want off this sinking ship.
