Background: I support operations in a cyber security environment, and I do the work of 1-1/2 people beyond my initial job requirements and my salary is $45,000. The Median and average salary for my 1 position is $60,000-$65,000.
Raise?: I asked for a raise and both mid level and senior level manager’s agreed that it was certainly warranted… but there was a cap to my salary for the position I work in. They offered a $5,000 raise to the cap but it won’t come into affect until June. In the meantime they will “put me in” for bonuses of “up to” $1,000. Bonuses are taxed at like 40% so even if it was $1,000 then I would get like $640. Of course, the employer did not specify how often the bonuses would occur or how much they would be. Lastly, they mentioned that I would be up for a promotion to a different position in January to increase my salary cap. But of course that comes with more responsibility, knowledge, and work.
My response: I sent an email saying thank you for talking and I am super appreciative, but I would like something in writing to outline what is happening, how much I am getting, and when I am getting it. They have not responded yet, but I wanted to see what your thoughts are.
