Antiwork

Our attitudes on this sub are one of the reasons UBI will be next to impossible to implement in the U.S.

Aside from how many wage slaves seem desperate to protect the system that abused them. The amount of standing up for ourselves in this sub is exactly why UBI will be so hard to implement in the U.S. I support UBI because I don't think humans are lazy. Unlike some people in this sub I think humans fundamentally want to work. I believe it's a human need to feel like you are valuable to your tribe and society. I honestly believe if you gave everyone the option to never work again they'd choose to work if the working conditions were not deeming and cruel. That's the problem.

UBI can l give everyone the option to work or not. In that environment you have to have good working conditions where people feel better after leaving work (yes this is possible). Where people feel their work adds meaning to their lives because their work is meaningful and ads to the world.

That's not the world we have right now. The world we have requires poverty, death and suffering to compel people to work because more times than not our work is meaningless. Even when we work in industries like healthcare which should inherently add meaning, the thirst for profit strips that meaning away.

I'm proud of this sub but I do think it will be an uphill battle. You can read this sub two ways. You can read it as, giving people agency allows people to fight for themselves, their community and for better working living conditions. Or you can read it as, “giving people agency creates uppity workers who will quit instead of continuing to be abused.

They are watching. They are afraid. They'll use our standing up for ourselves to convince the wage slaves who buy into the system that we are the problem, not the resource sucking capital class.
