I’ve got a job and my plan was to stay here until September to save money. Looks like I’ll be leaving earlier.
Today was my first day and my new boss starts talking about how we are a small family and how we are all equal, etc.
In my experience this is usually a sign that the workplace is extremely toxic. Right after talking about this he explains to me that our workplace has a plan to fight against absenteeism.
So we get paid the minimum wage and depending on how much we work we can get up to 100€ more of commissions per month. But apparently that’s a lot, most people hardly get more than 50€. He explained to me that if we take a sick day, you won’t get any commissions that month. If you take two sick days or go on leave all the coworkers will only get half of their commissions. So me taking two sick days would affect all my coworkers.
He then explained that a good coworker when he isn’t feeling too well he would simply have a painkiller and come to work.
And I was like, but does maternity leave and leave for a serious injury or diagnosed illness also counts as absenteeism? And he said yes, everything counts.
But that he will be more “understanding” if it’s something real. That the company is doing this mainly to avoid people missing work days for “nothing”
Edit: btw they also lied on the job interview. But I really need the money so I might stick for a few weeks or months while I find something else.
