Overtime vs Schedule

So, my supervisor told me first thing this morning that we’re working mandatory 10hr shifts until the workload eases up. Fair enough. He just walked up to me about 10 minutes ago and told me that I am not allowed to work early and leave early, as I need to work my scheduled hours. I often do this because they’ve never cared in the past. However, I just had to talk to HR about my boss a couple weeks ago, and now this. Now that he’s contradicted himself, if I go home after my scheduled hours and don’t work the overtime, would I be responsible? After all, he did tell me to work my scheduled hours AFTER he had told me about the OT.
