just needed somewhere to complain about this new job bc im not entirely sure if its even legal or not yet. AMA if you can help me decide if i need to report anything lol basic background without getting too personal: im in my 20s, working in the uk for one location in a chain of corner stores. i was hired on the spot (early july) for what my employer called an “IT support position” based on my web design experience, but it turns out my responsibilities are just anything involving a computer. i'm being paid 9.50/hr, which they say will increase over time, despite the recent cutting of my hours. initially i was asked to manage our company facebook page, and the delivery orders on justeat. i would adjust prices when necessary, or turn off items which are out of stock, as well as creating graphics for our social…

basic background without getting too personal: im in my 20s, working in the uk for one location in a chain of corner stores. i was hired on the spot (early july) for what my employer called an “IT support position” based on my web design experience, but it turns out my responsibilities are just anything involving a computer. i'm being paid 9.50/hr, which they say will increase over time, despite the recent cutting of my hours.

initially i was asked to manage our company facebook page, and the delivery orders on justeat. i would adjust prices when necessary, or turn off items which are out of stock, as well as creating graphics for our social media and answering customer messages. since then, i've been asked to plan a charity event (which i've never done before), list job openings on Indeed (all rejected bc I don't have any kind of company login and they think I'm a scammer), make and run a tiktok page (for a convenience store??), build a website, add the entire store's stock to justeat grocery, and i've been trained on stock and till (imo so they can keep paying me the regular shop staff wages).

my hours have recently been cut from mon-fri 9-5 to tue-thu 9-12 and i'm really feeling like quitting if i can find anything better. i'm doing the work of around 7 different job roles, including the Indeed thing which I think is HR's responsibility, all for minimum wage!

i've only worked here 2 months but still haven't signed any contracts, and i get paid in cash with a payslip every friday.
