And I quote: “it’s a very scientific process with a lot of variables.” For context: extremely high turnover, 5-6 people have left since I started 8 mo. ago. Extreme pay discrepancies between employees with the same titles, way lower than market value pay overall. Apparently understanding the bonus/raise structure is too much for our minds to comprehend.
I’m not joking
Hi, capitalism is a failed experiment and I need help. I accepted a position at a new company last year. It was a substantial pay cut from my previous employer, with the understanding in the interview that a company-wide review of the position's pay versus competitors' rates was in process and was expected to be resolved shortly, so I gave the place a shot knowing that it was a gamble. Months later, the pay review has finally came through and …it was still incredibly far off from a competitive rate. The work environment is nice, but I just genuinely can't keep working at their low rate. My fuck-up here: I gave my manager a heads up that I was going to begin looking at other positions. (Yeah, I know. Won't happen ever again, but I know this place has an extensive onboarding process and I felt genuinely bad for the…
Planned Obsolescence a policy of producing consumer goods that rapidly become obsolete and so require replacing, achieved by frequent changes in design, termination of the supply of spare parts, and the use of nondurable materials.
I feel like I am being lied to by the human resources person. I asked them why I couldn't see new job assignments on my substitute schedule app, and they said they didn't know why I couldn't see them. Then I said “who should I ask to get this problem fixed” they then said “I am the one you should speak to I have restricted your hours because we can only have people work here 4 days a week.”. Okay so I guess they did know why… I asked them if they could remove the restriction and they said unfortunately not because it's district wide and not per person. Okay so if you knew that a random restriction came in last week then why did you originally say that you don't know why my account is being restricted? It sounds like they aren't being honest about it. Another question I…
At my work, every year after bonus season there’s a wave of people that leave. Especially this year, the company I work for had great profits and inflation is at an all time high, yet they gave all of us 3-4% raises and average bonuses while the c-suite cashed in record bonuses. I work in a highly specialized field and with hiring already difficult, they’ve had to increase the pay grade and offer signing bonuses to incentivize people to join as openings sit empty for months and attrition is at a high, but if you’re an existing employee promotions and above average raises are regularly turned down by HR even for high performers…the end result not surprisingly is continued turnover and unhappy employees left to pick up the slack. I actually had a coworker move to a competitor after HR turned down his manager‘s promotion requests and then move…
How is it that 80% of the jobs I'm hearing about don't offer PTO? I think recruiting agencies are a real contributor to the rise of r/antiwork. Companies outsource HR and hiring to recruiting agencies, who then get a cut of your pay. I devote 8 hours a day, 5 days a week to a company and they refuse to pay me for one or two days I want to miss?
I see a lot of people talk about how their educated jobs are being paid as much if not less than those that are not educated and I just wanted to put out there that a lot of people working “Skill-less” jobs have degrees or are working towards degrees just don’t have the same opportunities or even luck that some people have. Sometimes we’re stuck doing jobs our degrees aren’t for just to pay the bills and at that point it becomes an endless cycle. I hate that I went to school for an art degree and am stuck doing things I’d rather not be in order to pay rent while simultaneously doing what I feel called to. We all deserve opportunities and positive work force change. That’s all I’m sayin.
