A year ago, I got a part-time job working at Bestbuy. I needed money for school, car bills, gas, etc. It was always my dream to work part-time in a tech store because I love technology. It was back-to-school season when I started, so our store was very busy. I averaged around 43 hours a week. I always showed up on time, never called out, and covered other workers shifts/stayed late if necessary. I was the best salesmen in the whole district for three consecutive months (I was SUPPOSED to get awarded for that, but that's another story), and I was one of the only employees that tended to out her responsibilites (cleaning, organizing, closing properly, etc.). Even during the school year (holiday season) I was working about 28 hours a week. After the holiday season ended (January), my manager notified us that they would be cutting down hours till…
I don't know if rants are allowed here, I'll know if this post gets removed. I'm just really frustrated with my predicament right now. 2019: I did an internship for 6 months and it was unpaid. I was fine with this because I know that interns don't get paid in my field. 2021: I started with the same employer in a different firm because I was given the impression that in two months I'd be hired/paid. Four months pass and I don't get paid. My parents told me I should quit and I shouldn't be fine with not being paid. Problem is I have really bad imposter syndrome (adhd) and I didn't think i was doing a lot of work there. Most days no one came to work and they'd work frome home so I'd just sit there from 9 to 5. I finally got the courage to tell my…
Trying to live without work
Hi everyone, Just to make it clear.. I have nothing against working, i have something against work taking up valuable time from my wife & I. Now introduction Im 26, working in sales 7 years already. I was Door2Door salesperson, telemarketer, worked in store, sold cars.. I did it all.. now I got fed up. My wife & I want to spend time together, enjoy life as intended and not give our valuable time to someone who is getting rich on our behalf while belittling and underpaying us. Problem is we have few loans, and where we are from (Croatia) is hard to live normal without aforementioned loans. I know we cant survive without our jobs, and we went through multiple firms, and always the same. Question is, can you give us some pointers for life. I speak three languages, Native Croatian, English and German. We love martial arts. She…
My manager set a spy on me
So obviously the title is a hyperbole but I definitely thought it was funny that it happened. A while ago I walked into work and clocked in and walked out onto the floor my managers and the “spy” were all in the corner talking in a circle, but I began my work folding clothes before we opened. A bit of time passed and said spy walked over to me. A little bit of background information, I only work weekends because I am busy with school. And obviously I can’t come into work during school hours. But I know we are short staffed during the week. Anyways, the spy walks over to me and asks me how schools is. Oddly specific considering we both go to school in the area but okay. I explain it’s stressful and I’m overwhelmed with classes. (I take more classes than required during the day) I…
Please view my previous post to AntiWork for more context. But also my recent post to AskHR. I'm losing my bloody mind here. I was told recently that there would soon be a promotion for me if I so choose, or I can stay in my position now. However, I am VERY underpaid for what I do now, and went to reddit to ask for advice because I assumed I was not paid well because I do not have a GED. WELL. I've been with this company for 3 1/2 years. I make $16. There's a male hired in a lower position than me in DEC. He also has no GED. And he's paid $17. No sense. I've been livid since I found out. My “new position.” Was bumped to June…. I'm supposed to take on most of my boss' responsibilities. And she was telling me how unfairly she was…
I’m currently unemployed due to medical reasons and have been having a very hard time finding a new job. Has anyone here found a good, reliable source of income that doesn’t require working? Obviously I know I need to work to some degree, I guess I’m asking for suggestions on how to make money without working for someone else.
“Rent a car” they say.
Yesterday my truck wouldn't start at the end of the work day. A friend picked me, and my tools up. I'm a carpenter and haul my things in my personal truck that is not paid for in any way by my employer. Had the truck towed to a shop and chose to use two days of vacation to finish out the week. Today I was called and told that I'm a disappointment for not “stepping up” and figuring it out. Should have used my extra car or borrowed one from a friend or rented one to make it happen. That was the advice, at no point was help offered. I'm merely a low class laborer that only has one value. Labor. Just another slave barely scraping by and is my fault my truck broke. It's my fault I can't afford to rent a car. And it's my fault for not…
