https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/18597749/forced-out-health-care-job-colleagues-found-side-hustle/ Read this article a while ago and I am kind of hooked. I mean I'd love to know everyone else's opinion on this. According to me a person has the right to do whatever they want in their personal life or has it changed with time? I even heard the podcast she gave her interview on and she talked about so many things she faced. The episode was great and so is she for handling it well.
On this sub the other day, i saw an infographic with a green background with about 10-12 progressive steps of being burned out. Each step had a flame that was getting progressively redder. I tried searching and cannot find it. Help!
Okay Ima try and get this in timeline order. I’ve been at this job since March 1st of 2021. So I’ve been here for over a year. My pay started at $10/hr because I had no prior experience. After 9 months working there, I asked for a raise, and even that took another months worth to get it. So I didn’t get my first raise til after 10 months. My manager wasn’t in charge of giving raises, he had to go to his boss to get a raise for me approved. He told him that he thought I deserved a $2 raise. At the time I was like “damn. That’s a lot.” I didn’t get the $2 raise, instead I got $1.50. So I’m making $11.50/hr. I am still at this pay rate. Now what’s so frustrating is many of the new hires started much higher than me. $12/hr, $13/hr,…
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2022/05/medieval-history-peasant-life-work/629783 This article talks about the romanticisation of peasant life in the middle ages. And how people say they had it easier back then, having fewer working days, more community life, less modern-day stress of the internet, and climate change, yada yada yada… But actually, they had it just as hard, they still had to work every day to tend to their farm, even if their lord gave them “a day off”. I'm very aware of how this is a western view on everything, with references to western culture, and that other cultures will view things much differently. There's an understandable trend to think that today we're spiralling towards disaster, and that we should try and go back to the “good old days” when life was simpler and more predictable. But it really wasn't back then. They were constantly revolting against their masters, war or attack of a neighbouring land…
I work at a tea shop, currently, and they say that making cups for them counts as a break, and that I need to clock out for my smoke breaks. I know both of these things are illegal, but I have no “tangible” evidence of this practice. How would I go about reporting this for proper reimbursement? Also, I do not get a lunch break, not am I allowed to bring food or drink to work for sustenance. They supply me with one protien shake and one tea a day, as compensation for this. Not sure about the legality regarding this, and I don't plan on being here much longer. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. For reference, I live in Tennessee, in the US.
Come to Japan, Americans!
Ever since I joined this sub I've seen a lot of people struggling to even survive, but this is not the case in Japan! I will tell you why you ought to consider moving to Japan. Although mind you, this is for those who struggle to survive, not for those who wish to be paid more for your profession because America is still the best place for working for the high-skilled Everything here is really reasonable I see American housing market really is bubbling up to the point you can't even have a roof over your head, and I assume it's because the capitalists all over the world are investing heavily in it but Japan never had and will not have that kind of problem. With all the frequent natural disasters those capitalists have no intention to invest in Japanese soil, and for example I live in a decent one-room…
PSA FOR NEW EMPLOYEES
DON’T live at work! Set boundaries , enjoy your life. You shouldn’t need to be at work longer then you need to be at work. Another thing I see is people working 60 hours a week. I PROMISE ITS NOT THE FLEX YOU THINK IT IS. TO MANY TIMES I see younger folks working like 60 plus hours at a job that would replace them. GO LIVE YOUR LIFE. Like if you live at home your parents take care of you etc etc. THEN go live your life. DONT LET THESE MANAGERS USE YOU.
He out of line, but I mean…
“People don’t want to work now a days, they just want to sit in their parents basements, in front of computers, drinking avocado toast, or whatever” -VP of Manufacturing How can these people be so out of touch with reality?! I’m just happy I don’t work for him or his minions anymore.
