New job requiring hours of useless unpaid training courses

Need some thoughts and possibly advice on this… Just got hired for a $13/hr entry level front desk position at a chain massage place. I did two interviews and everything seemed somewhat acceptable, they say they want to hire me so I come in to fill out paperwork. First red flag was when I inquired about how to put in for time off on the employee app. The manager danced around the question for a bit with various uhhs and ums until she asks me, “well when would you even want time off??” I told her about a specific family event I go to every year for a couple days in late May and she first asks if I put that in my availability on my indeed resume… which I did not because that seems pretty ridiculous honestly. She then tells me to put it in the app now and…

What is the solution?

I have had awful jobs and bosses over the years and I've almost killed myself by overworking three jobs at a time just to make rent sometimes! Capitalism is the poison because the ones at the top can do a lot more BUT they CHOOSE not to. I relate to most people and their frustrations here but is there an end to this? How do we escape the current order? Has anyone figured out a vague solution yet? I'm open to anything, really. I've been considering working for myself or starting up something too, but that doesn't really fix the problem.

Asked for a bonus, or something, after killing myself when we’re understaffed and juggling projects. Got an hour and a half lecture of how ungrateful I am, and that this is expected where I work.

A couple of notes: I work for 'big tech ' (FAANG). I saw a previous post of someone killing theirselves at work and getting nothing extra in return. And hope this will help more people come forward and show support. I work on a team that handles a lot of different projects, internal customers, development requirements, shifting of priorities, and so on. Last couple of months, 1 person was on PTO+parental leave. 2 people were down with COVID+PTO 1 person was reassigned to a 'more urgent project'. And myself, left with pretty much 100% of what the team does+unexpected escalations, changes, and more. I think I worked about 18 hours a day in those past couple of months, jumping head on on every task and thing needed to get done by the team. After everything settled and people came back to work, I emailed my manager letting him know that…

do you match your coworkers’ energy?

I have a shit job that I'll hopefully be leaving soon. Basically, impossible things are asked of us, and we're always behind and getting scolded for it. I'm at a point where i don't want to so more than the bare minimum, but despite agreeing we're under too much pressure, they are all working themselves to death. I even caught one of the other cashiers in a panic attack. This company doesn't deserve our best, but everyone still works like they owe this place their lives. How do you guys do this?

are we officially done with the idea that the customer is always right?

Do we agree the customer is usually wrong?

The higher ups are so damn out of touch. Sort of a rant.

I'm honestly baffled. Like, I knew it was true. But I didn't know HOW true. My last post here about a month and a half ago here, I posted how I was putting in my 2 weeks at my gig in the Restaurant Industry, corporate office. I'm happily at my new job, and today had lunch with my old gossip buddy. “Now that you don't work here I can tell you the real juicy stuff” she said. By “real juicy stuff” she meant numbers. The COO of the company – not the owners (aka the founders' children) – The COO's bonus was almost HALF A MILLION DOLLARS for 2021. This is the same company that did not give me a raise last year. This is the same company who is about to have a meeting between all the higher-ups because their best Bookkeeper wants to be at $25 an hour,…

I Was Laid-off 3 Weeks Ago, a Blessing in Disguise

I was laid-off 3 weeks ago from my Marketing Manager role. I was hired in March of 2021. Prior to my hire the entire Marketing dept was furloughed and outsourced. I was brought on as the first member of “Marketing Team 2.0”. After about a month I grew to dread the role, solely because of the incredibly uneducated C-Suite. Basically President, CEO, CIO, HR VPs who shouldn't hold those titles, but have them cause they've been in the company for 25+ yrs. Nothing moves in the company until the President approves or denies it. There was always a lack of professionalism and respect. Which is awful considering this is a mid-size global corp. Alot of off-color comments, Biased treatment, Reckless safety protocol (lack thereof) for COVID, bad wages, HUGE distrust in employees, dangerously poor communication, old/out-dated crap software, alongside just other lack-luster conditions. Imagine, the company was founded in 1991,…
