Reported possible health issue and got told how I’m doing it wrong. Time to dust off the CV

I'm a teacher. Kids I teach started a new trend of stabbing each other with their compass points. All in good fun for them I'm sure, no serious injuries but all I was thinking of was possible contamination. Dealt with the issue while in front of me and then sent a report email to management to ensure they were aware. Ignored my email for two weeks before replying yesterday to say I was at fault for allowing such behavior (I didn't) and wanted my proof for how I had dealt with it. Honestly, we're back full time for the first time in two years. And we're so fricken exhausted. So much paperwork all the time to prove all the things we 'did'. All just fluff really. E.g. fill in all this paperwork to show this child is failing, you know the child is failing, he knows he's failing, and then…

Gotta love being rejected by a bot

I’m looking for a job and honestly I’ve sent out so many resumes I’ve lost track. I’ve interviewed and am still in rounds with a couple of companies. Today, I saw a first (for me). After submitting a resume yesterday, a bot responded saying I wasn’t the right fit.

Non-compete for hourly workers

I just found out that a manufacturing company in MD is forcing their employees to sign a non-compete, limiting their job opportunities when they leave the company, either on their own or otherwise. I think that's complete BS. I mean, maybe for some higher level positions, or sales roles where you have stiff competition and could easily transition into a sales role in another industry, but these are for very specialized positions (Industrial Maintenance) where they go to a 2yr trade school to learn the job. Does anyone have any experience pushing back on these? It sounds like it's legal in MD, although recently they have been restricting their use. Again, I just think it's complete BS.

PSA: With all the ‘i quit’ posts, this needs to be reiterated: DON’T QUIT YOUR JOB, LET THEM FIRE YOU

For multiple reasons, but the most important one is that sticking around and making your voice heard may get you what you want. That's how change can happen, and you getting what you want. Quitting lets them get away with what they want and how are they doing things. Facing a strong employee that insists on taking his rights and imposing his will is HOW THINGS CHANGE, and you manage to get what you desire from the job. If your lunch break gets taken away from you. Take your lunch break. Tell anyone that asks why or how, that you are taking your lunch break. If they threathen to reprimand or to fire you, let them. If someone quits and you are asked to take on additional responsabilities at no extra compensation, say you will not do that. If you are told you can't take pre-approved time off, take it…

My work keeps dumping human waste on the ground. I don’t know how many times this has happened since before I was here but in the year I’ve been here it’s happened at least six times. What do I do? We are right next to the ocean and a natural stream for salmon.

Work gave me a 3% raise. Do I even bother trying to negotiate?

Been at my job since April, and there’s been such high turnover that I’m now one of the more experienced people in my position and dept. I also know that my company recently hired peers in a different department for significantly higher than what I make. I would have needed a 15-18% raise to match. I’ve already had prior frustrations with my employer regarding promised work/life balance not being delivered. In addition to handling my responsibilities I’ve been taking on work that’s above my title. My industry is booming and I don’t anticipate finding a new job to be difficult. All that said, if I stick around for at least another year I would hope they would give me a better title. It seems like they’re blaming the lack of movement on my having been here less than one year. Also, I have a young child and a time-consuming house,…

I got fired for filing for unemployment after Amazon didn’t give me a route for a week.

You heard it right, I filed for unemployment when I didn’t get a route for a whole week, explicitly saying the route drops were not performance based. Therefore allowing me to file under the reduced hours clause. The day after I did so, halfway through my first shift back I was disciplined for performance reasons by having my routes dropped to 3 a week instead of 4 from that point forward. These performance issues weren’t mentioned until after I began my shift back to work. When I explained further how it was amazons fault with delayed loadouts and a van that was grounded in an audit, and that I was slowing down for safety and that if safety was my DSP’s number one priority it shouldn’t be this large of a problem. I also gave them an ultimatum stating if I have 3 or more routes dropped it will be…
