The best company I’ve worked for in my industry is, ironically, the only company that didn’t bombard me with anti-union propaganda.

No one at this company has said a word about unionizing. I was not forced to sit through an hour long “WE DON'T NEED AN EVIL UNION AND HERES 10 REASONS WHY” bullshit presentation. I'm being paid more than I've ever been paid (by a long shot) for the same job I've been doing for years at other companies. My managers work with me and treat me with respect. I don't get a sob story or guilt trip when I ask for a day or two off, even on short notice. I can show up and work six hours or I can stick around for some overtime and work 10, it's completely up to me. I'm getting the best health insurance I've ever had for literally $4 a paycheck. My highest up manager personally confronts me WEEKLY to ask if I'm happy in the workplace and if there's anything he…

My company is doing very little about one of my coworkers drunk husband harassing employees when they leave the building because she’s a “vital” employee (they are exploiting her shitty home life).

This is going to be a big ol wall-o-text rant. So pissed. My coworkers husband is a severe alcoholic. It’s so bad they say he has alcohol induced dementia. A few years ago he spiraled pretty bad. He got a DUI while driving the company truck and was fired. He hasn’t been able to get a job since and his alcoholism has increased 10 fold, He spam calls her all day long while she’s at work. If she turns off or doesn’t answer her phone he will spam call the front desk asking for her. He lies and says it’s an emergency and he needs to talk to her when really it’s all dumb shit. He walks or hitches a ride into town (rural area, they live in an acreage like 10miles from town). He will stalk the parking lots at my work waiting for her, sometimes he tries to…

Amazon just closed all of its retail store and gave no reason.

I used to work at an Amazon bookstore (quit early January because it was hell), and my friends who still work there just informed me they all officially lost their jobs. I don’t understand why seeing as our store was doing really well, and they were opening two other stores in the near area and we were training their managers. Our manager had just been promoted and now she’s lost the position. I don’t think it’s a coincidence there has been more talks of unionizing and upping the pay right before they closed everything.

Demand Justice for Evan

JOIN A PROTEST ON MARCH 9 TO GET JUSTICE FOR EVAN. On March 9, 2021, 40-year old Evan Seyfried took his own life after workplace abuse and mobbing. He was a 20-year exemplary employee at Kroger, one of the largest grocers in the US. According to The Washington Post, in a “wrongful death” lawsuit, Evan's family alleges his death resulted from a six-month harassment campaign by two co-workers at the Milford, Ohio, location: A supervisor allegedly harassed him for wearing a face mask during COVID and made fun of him for his political beliefs, calling him “antifa.” Evan reported several unwanted sexual advances toward him, which resulted in no response from management after he reported them. The supervisor allegedly left holes in his department schedule, making extra work for him. After hearing reports from neighbors, Evan believed co-workers who his supervisors pitted against him followed him home and waited on…

US work culture

If you’re from the US, you probably won’t be surprised by these things but here are some observations from over the years: -never worked at a place with sick time, so people would spread their viruses to the whole office and we would work through it -5 days off for a guy who had his first child -worked at a place with 0 time off -fired someone for having cancer -at a place with paid healthcare I overheard an HR manager say “we will not be hiring someone old because I don’t want to have to pay a higher amount” -worked at a place that didn’t have lunch or breaks (paid or unpaid) And there’s probably more. Any other fun ones you want to add?

My employer messed up my paycheck, paid me late, and now I’m going to be homeless.

So I work overnight shift at an IT company and get paid a shift differential for doing so, a differential that comes out to about $100. That shift differential is pretty much the only reason I'm barely able to pay my bills as a single parent. I like my job, the work I do, my team, and even my old boss AND new current boss, who have always been good to me. I've been extremely loyal as I find my work fulfilling, despite the pay. Three weeks ago this bit me in the ass after my HR department forgot to pay me my shift differential and I had to choose between buying groceries or paying rent in full. I talked to my property manager and was assured they'd work with me so I bought food for me and my daughter, reached out to HR about the discrepancy, told me they…

No thank you, Biden. Not going back. (Neurodivergent here).

I cringed last night at Biden mentioning people going back to offices and downtowns. I found out during the past year that I’m neurodivergent. Waiting for a formal diagnosis which is in itself a privilege, but in the meantime…most likely autism, with an unusual skill-scatter. I can communicate well, can speak two languages well, conversational in four (one is endangered, so I self-taught), taught myself to read Cyrillic when I was fourteen. I’m not like in Rain Man. I’m actually terrible at math. That aside, I was always called gifted. And I test very, very well. So, I completed a law degree from a top regional school and passed the bar. My lack of soft skills, charisma, and relative inability to network punched me in the gut when I was looking for work. I mean, like a lot of female-born neurodivergent people, I follow all the tips and rules. I…

Got warned for talking about our wages.

I work for city hall in a small town In Texas. Today I called in to the office with HR and the City Secretary. Pretty much they said that I'm not allowed to discuss my wage with anyone. And that this is just a warning. It was animal control I talking with. Turns out they were getting paid way less than $2 less. They went and told HR that they wanted a raise. And that's how they found out it was me.lol I'm barely making 12 she was making 10. I was shocked when they told me that.
