I never had a great experience with a recruiter until now. I’ve been looking for a new job within my field (construction estimating) because I’ve been massively undervalued. I was hired at $45K a year salary, overtime exempt. A year later, no raise and I came to find out that a new hire was brought on for $55K a year, fresh out of college with no estimating experience. Another year goes by, I get a $6K raise but I’m applying to every estimating job I see. I go through many interviews, and it just seems like no one is biting. Maybe I’m bad at presenting myself (I’m autistic). Finally, I’m contacted by a recruiter. She is looking for candidates for a fully unionized company. I tell her exactly what my current day to day is and she says “huh, it doesn’t seem like you should be in a junior role”…
I just want to say thank you!
This community has over the last few months inspired me. I have been a cook my whole life being treated like shit not being able to take time off or get a fair wage for over 20 years and today I’m proud to say that I have moved on. I found me a great new job with excellent starting wages full benefits and a retirement and a promise (in writing) of a raise annually. It is all thanks to you people that I put my foot down and started looking out for me. You all are life changers and I encourage you all to do the same. We are all worth more.
I don’t law so I don’t know if “fraud” is the correct term here, but I feel this situation should be considered a big no-no.
Big Picture
I currently own a small business and am truly horrified at the majority of the stories on here. The majority of these stories involve employers actions that are immoral or completely illegal. I have always viewed that the employees of my company come first. I pay as much as the business can afford to our employees and I pay myself half the salary of our lowest paid employee. If an employee needs help financially I loan or personally give him / her the funds. I also promote the company as a team with no individual including myself above another. I feel a large number of employees miss the connection that revenue growth in a company directly correlates to ability for a company to provide more to the employees. I will be the first to admit from the stories many employers on here want all the money for themself. My goal…
