tell me about your anti-union job training

i’m a young, freelance journalist out of north carolina looking to do a reporting piece on the legally ambiguous nature of a lot of entry-level corporate jobs’ anti union trainings, as well as how they seek to intentionally misinform workers about what unions are (focusing on the cost of dues, making it sound like union membership is irrevocable, etc.) I’m particularly interested in hearing from Walmart, Target, Wegmans, Starbucks, and Amazon workers, but I’m really open to hearing any and all stories. feel free to comment or personal message. cheers!

Regarding Wage Difference

I work with two others in question, A and B (not their initials). I make 24.00/hr. Coworker A started around the same time as me and makes 22.00/hr. I was told, by Coworker A, that is is because I have a college degree and am being compensated for that effort. Okay, fine, if you're not upset about being paid less I won't fret. Coworker B started one month ago. His wage is 23.70/hr. He served in the military and completed his time, but does not have a degree. I wanted to contact the recruiter we all share and bring this up. We have been short staffed for a while, so did the wage for the position increase? Is he being compensated for serving in the military like I am with my degree? Even if so, I wanted to bring it up for confirmation. I have this drafted: “Hi Recruiter, I…

My boss is giving me partial pay even though I’m salary

Hey all. I’m not sure if anyone will even see this, but here we go. So I work for my parents company that they own and I’m a salaried employee. During this month of February, we have had 2 snow storms and we the employees, were advised by our bosses (my parents) to stay home and work from home due to the storms. I then get an email today asking how much time I REALLY worked from home and I told them “to be honest about an hour and a half total” since it was so slow. I then receive a follow up email stating they will have to give me partial pay since we had to close due to the storms but yet I’m salary? Can someone help me understand what I need to do?

What other animal on earth does this?

What other animal on earth has to spend it's entire life obeying the instructions of a stranger just so it can have food and shelter? Every day it has to have it's abilities judged then at the end of it's life it might “own” the shelter it lived in which will likely go back to the state. I know insects such as ants and bees work and sacrifice themselves for the colony, but do any other animal do this? I imagine human society should consist of families and close friends living on large estates. Working mainly just to obtain food and water. There wouldn't be this ridiculous pressure to do these nonsense jobs for some sociopath boss. It feels messed up.

I may have made more of an impact for social change by NOT suing for discrimination.

I want to share my story because I often see commenters here suggest workers sue their employers. This story is not to discourage you from trying that route, just a window into what that entailed for me when I, an economically privileged person with every advantage and the right documentation, sued a major corporation for discrimination due to pregnancy. I worked for a large chain department store from 2004-2009. I entered as a sales floor employee, was promoted to team manager in 2006, then promoted to regional team manager in 2007. I lived in San Francisco and covered the Northern California region. A couple months into that promotion they added sales training to my role, which meant I trained the sales floor teams at 40+ locations that carried our brand. I got no pay increase for the additional duties, it just took my support away from my local teams more…

Harassed at Amazon, legitimately

So, I had been working for Amazon for a year plus. When I started working there, my boss at the time came down on me for a mistake that wasn’t my fault, I didn’t make. I went to HR to document, just in case this was going to be a reoccurring theme and wanted to make them aware. The next day, HR was outside my depts area mocking me. Apparently, the HR rep that was responsible for this was fired months later. Unfortunately, this was not well received by my boss who then assigned me all the cleaning/bottom of the barrel tasks. Previous shifts would leave loose equipment and trash on carts and it was my responsibility to clean it. I also received all the heavy lifting tasks of moving equipment from area to area. My boss gave me one of the lowest raises in our department across the whole…

Need Help With “Improving” My Resume

Basically I have no official experience as an editor, and so when I apply to jobs asking for at least one year of experience, I have to try to make the case that even though I have no official experience, I believe I am capable of doing the job – which I absolutely do believe. So, anyone who might be able to help or knows someone who could help would be appreciated. I would like to claim at least one year of experience and be able to have it verified if I was ever asked to show proof. That would also mean I would need documents showing my work. Am I asking too much?

Employer offered way over asking salary

A lot of times we post here out of anger (more often justified than not) or we are looking for confirmation and validation for the frustration that we feel ourselves. I wanted to post part of my own experience that has given me a small glimmer of hope for my career and future outlook. I recently applied to a job that is a little out of my comfort zone, however have a good idea of the work entailed due to knowing others that have worked for the company. I had no direct experience with the patient population and was up front with this in my application and interview. I put forward salary requirements which I felt were reasonable given my lack of experience in this field directly. I was eventually offered the position, and received a counteroffer at 20% over asking. I have accepted the offer given the fact that…

Going back to scho

I have become a very important member of the team at my job, I have the most seniority in my position and do a lot of the training (obviously without additional pay). My boss has come to depend on my for a lot of things. Recently I got accepted into a program and will be going back to school full time. I am so excited to quit so that my boss realizes he should’ve either treated me better or hired a trainer. I am counting down the days.
