Place: Small cannabis store Scenario: Manager lets several things fall to the wayside over the period of months, leading to animosity amongst staff. Nothing unusual in a small close knit store. There were a lot of tight friendships and the in-fighting was awkward. The staff begged for a meeting so we could all air our grievances, regroup, and come back stronger than ever. We were promised the meeting. And then: The Manager's manager got fired. Two weeks later, my manager got fired. The staff still beg for the meeting as it's feeling more and more crucial we hash things out. Today, HR showed up and fired 5 of the 7 staff members. “Culture reset” is what they called it. Staff member number 6 quit when she found out this all happened, and staff member 7 is there, at work with a bunch of strangers she hasn't worked with before,…
This isn’t your usual extreme grievance. But I had just came out of the ER the day before. It wasn’t an extreme thing that needed a week off of work, but I am now on meds and I was recommended to rest for 2 days because its the smart thing to do. However I had already missed 2 days and I barely make rent in 2-3wks. Today I worked an 8 hour shift. Short-staffed the entire shift. There is only me and one manager running the entire store ( cash register, both sides of makeline, packline / aka mobile or bagging, dishes and prep table. ) while people are flooding in due to the rain and just normal lunch rush as we’re connected to a truck stop. 3/4ths through, The manager asks if I can stay an hour later, till 19:00. I say Yes. Noone else ever makes it in.…
Update from here. So I tried keeping my clockout receipts from the last 2 nights I worked but they ended up being the last 2 nights I worked at all. My manager gave me the side eye when I put it in my pocket instead of in the trash. The next night I called in sick. The next time I saw him after that, I went to talk to him about the schedule and my manager told me I was sick too often, and to stop coming in because I was fired. I hadn't gotten a chance to go in to the manager's office yet, reset my password because I lost it, login to the computer, and print out my timesheets to compare to those receipts which I didn't lose and this process isn't suspicious or intentionally difficult so that people won't check their timesheets or salary. Now, since I…
Spread the word – Poland border is open
I know it's off topic, but this needs as many eyes as it can get. Google Translate Copyable English version so it can be spread further: Dear Ukrainians! Switching jobs really opened my eyes.
So, I was working at a place doing equipment maintenance, installation, and removal for a customer site (semiconductor industry) for six years. When I was offered the job, I was told limited/no travel requirements, yearly bonuses, and yearly pay increases based on performance review. That was in 2016. They hired me for ~$55k/yr, which was enough for me to get by. I've asked for raises here and there and been told repeatedly that they only happen during the annual performance reviews. Never got anything great. In the last year and some change, they increased our workload, took all of the competent people off of my team besides myself and one other, and left us with three brand new hires. For nearly 40 pieces of equipment. Then they decided that, since the other guy is married with a kid, I'd be solely responsible for any customers requiring travel. Nearly missed Thanksgiving,…
I signed on to be a teacher for an after school program. They hired someone who replaced me in most of my classes but gave me another class. Now hired another teacher to replace me in that class. Now they have me doing backroom prep everyday. More hours and same pay, but not what I signed on to do. I usually don’t talk about my gender with cis people and let people make their assumptions. I /do/ look very trans but can be taken for cis of my assigned gender. I got cornered into multiple “pronoun conversations” and after telling them “don’t worry about it” several times I decided it was in good faith. But now I’m thinking I was put in the back after parent complaints or something. I can’t think of any other reason. I’m really frustrated, but it’s excellent pay for the area so leaving would be…
8 hour working day
Watch a 3 hour film = “Oh my god, a 3 hour film? That's ridiculously long, how do you manage to sit through that?” Five hour car journey = “Wow, that's a long journey, it must have been quite tiring” Work an eight hour working day = “Ha! 8 hours at work! Is that all? That's nothing more than the bare minimum, you lazy person”
I'm an associate director for a non profit center. I was tasked with leading business operations (and our largest program and teaching) but every time I suggested a change or improvement it was disregarded. My boss and the other associate directors wanted things fixed but didn't want any part in changing their behavior to fix them. After 1.5 years of frustration, I decided I'm out. Today I met with my boss and gave him my notice plus a succession plan. I advised him that my position does not need to be filled and how he can use my budget to better the center. We need more people doing the work, not at the top. I advised we promote all three of my direct reports and add a new position to assist with their work. Those three people work on 30+ small, medium, and large projects doing communications, events, and business…
I recently moved 2500 miles away or so for various reasons not relevant. I found a job through a staffing agency that had me start right away bthe job is actually ok. Not great not horrible. Pay is actually pretty good per hour compared to other jobs in same industry. Problem is all of the new employees or people from staffing agencies like myself get sent home early if there isn't enough work. I would say about 60 percent of the time I get sent home early. So I do my job while looking for other jobs. My boss called me over and said my “rate” basically a number that determines my value is pretty good for new employees but I act like I don't care. I decided fuck it let me tell him how it is. I told him I don't get enough hours to care. With out getting…
