Disclaimer, english is not my native language. So, the marketing team thought it would be a good idea to host a giveaway on the company's social media pages. 30 clients would win a dinner at one of the city's finest restaurants for Valentine's Day. Apparently everything goes great but last minutes 4 winners say they won't be able to do make it. By that time it was too late to get in touch with the people on the waiting list so the guys from marketing told the branch manager there were four tickets left and it could be great for morale to have a draw between employees. She just said no and let them go to waste instead. These were dinners that were already paid for by the company. She could've made 8 people's night for free and just chose not to because… she could… I guess?
What businesses should we be supporting?
As everyone in this group is aware, there are far too many businesses treating workers like trash and still profiting. But what businesses are deserving of our money and support?
Work has consumed me. I am tired.
What should I do with my life? I feel like I go to work and come back from work just to go back in a few hours. I work full-time. I don't have many friends and I don't hang out with the few I have. I don't have many hobbies. I would love to go to the gym, ride a bike, go for a run, and date, but I don't do that. I pretty much netflix and chill at home while trying to not think of the next morning work. I don't enjoy work, but I don't hate it either. It's just nonstop work. I don't feel overwhelmed at work. I have ok coworkers, but I go to work just to work. I don't see the point of working extra hard to advance in my current career. I am thinking of switching careers, but it's a long way to go,…
The plan was to watch a gig with my Mrs and some old friends I haven't seen for a couple of years and, as the title says this had been booked in since last July. Today I was informed that I'm going to have to work 4 days of my holiday week because a duty manager has basically messed up and accepted too many holidays from too many people. This isn't the first time I've had difficulty in actually getting my holiday time, despite booking it months in advance. I told them that they can basically fuck off, but what should I do? It seems every time I book time off there are always “circumstances” that justifies (in their mind) a reason to stop me from taking my time off.
I am not sure where the best place is to post this, so if there are any suggestions please let me know. Mateo was an innocent, promising young student who was mercilessly bullied based on his race and socioeconomic status (Latino, lower income). Teachers tried desperately to do intervention to protect him but were blocked constantly by administrators (principal, vice principal, etc.). Recently Mateo sadly took his own life after one last brutal amount of bullying. He literally killed himself on the campus. Now the school is trying to cover it up. Some activists are trying to get some attention to this situation to bring justice for poor Mateo. https://www.change.org/p/scotts-valley-high-school-stand-against-bullying-at-scotts-valley-high-school This also speaks to the bad environment at schools and the devastating lack of agency that well-meaning teachers have in the face of oppressive administrators. Note: Scotts Valley is a wealthy suburb of San Jose, and it is filled with…

Many of us can’t do so due to constraints outside of our control (such as feeling uncomfortable doing so in public), and you are doing good praxis in reclaiming your labor value.
