I’m a certified MA and I can’t even find a job. I make more money delivering pizzas(around 4K a month)than testing people for COVID( they get paid between 13-18 an hour). I’m tired of people on Reddit and mainstream news saying there’s a shortage of workers but no one is willing to hire or train you.
Hi, I come from academia and I’m moving into industry. I’m used to the whole, “you work 60 h a week, but you choose the times” kind of thing. Anyways, I was just hired by a company and HR keeps passive-aggressively emailing me that their hours are “830 am to 6 p.m.” So my question is this, “can they demand I put in 9.5 h of work per day in a salary job”? The problem arises because it would require me to be in the office for all those hours, and that doesn’t make sense.
I called in an hour before my shift because that's when I thought my boss would be there. He was rude on the phone and told me that I should have called earlier. For context, I called in at 10. He said he had been in since 8. He said I should have given at least a 2 hours notice. I explained that I was under the impression that he didn't get into work untill 10. He said he wasn't happy and that I should have looked at the schedule previously so I could know when he comes in. I wasn't planning on being sick. I work in fast food and started coughing snot, sneezing and what not the night before. I waited to see if I could feel better and did not. I work at a Wendy's and this is my first time calling in. I've worked here about a…
PTO done right
I am currently on a week long vacation, and my company and manager have made me so happy. I love the culture they are developing. 1) my manager didn't ask what I was doing until my PTO was accepted and approved. 2) And then when she did ask, she gave me tons of recommendations on places to eat and things to do. She even told me if I get into trouble to let her know because she has family all throughout the area who can help me. 3) I responded to one email to confirm receipt because I was bored, and she messaged me saying I'm on vacation and not allowed to respond to any emails while on vacation. 4) I can see other members of my team picking up for me with a consistent message of, he's on vacation, don't bother him. This is what vacation should be like.…
This was 6 months ago. It was my first laboratory job out of college, and I spent 2 years there working myself like a dog for shit wages. He’s been working there for 15 years making mediocre wages, but acts like he’s a part of management. I warned him that complacency is worse than wanting more. I put my resume on indeed and got a call for a job that paid 2(1/2)X what I was earning. I’m much happier where I’m at now.
Don’t discuss your pay
The other day I asked the new employee what she was making. She told me the boss said not to discuss it. I told her it was fine and then found out she was making a dollar more than me. I have been there longer and know more than her. Always discuss pay. She was so worried about getting in trouble if I mentioned it and asked for a raise. The next day I got a raise without asking. So now we make the same. Which is better, but I still know more. I feel like I should be paid more.
I'm just a guy with a family and I just want to be happy. My wife and I are both looking for new jobs. She had a breakdown at her high level med exec job and refused to continue. She found out that she was being paid 10.5k less than her female counterpart – who is under her and who doesn't do even close to a good job and is basically the golden child of one of the other execs. My wife is Hispanic and really believes that the toxicity she encountered in her role was a result of her ethnicity and her age. She was constantly ignored, placed out of the projects, side stepped, and given everybody else's work. She was working 70+ hours a week doing all of the other executive work and fixing all the issues. The company is filled with only white people and absolutely can't…
