Capitalism, Communism, and the Corporate State

I've been lurking for a long while in here, and there's been a lot of low- and mid- level chatter about “capitalism bad”, and “we need co-ops” or “we need socialism/communism”. I would like to posit a theory of my own. TL;DR, for those that want it: “Capitalism and Communism are two sides of the same coin, and either side can as easily be fouled by the mud of corporatism.” There's your soundbite. And now to the TEDTalk… Capitalism and Communism share (in my mind at least), a common theme, which is the idea that the worker should own their work. Where they differ is that Communism, when tried outside of laboratory conditions, runs everything through the State. The entire Motherland IS the Company Store. To redistribute goods and services from those who have too much to those who have not enough REQUIRES an extensive logistical network, which then requires…

My company asks to make up for time I take to go to the restroom at the end of my shift

So I barely started working at this company call center and during training I’ve been told that if I have to go to the restroom during our work scheduled shifts I would need to make up for that time missing Example: Clock out is at 6:30 so if I go to the restroom for 5 mins I have to make up for them at the end of my shift and clock out at 6:35 Also this are 8 hrs shifts with 2 15 min breaks (not flexible for me but if we get a high volume of calls I will be rescheduled both of the breaks) and 30 min lunch (which can also be rescheduled) should I walk out? Seriously I think thats some horse shit

Seeking guidance and advice on starting a union at my job.

I know the point of this sub is to abolish work but I didn't want to post this on the spinoff sub since it's full of liberal chuds who think cops are workers. ANYWAY, I work at a small medical center. Less than 50 employees. Most are clinical (nurses and techs) and some are clerical (receptionists and such). Over the years we've received little to no raises and they began chipping away at our benefits. When the new management first came in, they took a week of vacation away. We had had 4 weeks PTO and we got bumped to 3 PTO and 1 SICK. We were pissed but we still had more than most so we all just accepted it. Just before the new year, management attempted to bring us down to 1 week PTO and 1 week SICK but there was a lot of resistance from the recent…

How is this a better option??

I work in Austria and I want your opinion guys on this. So companies offer three types of contract in my industry(tech) for white collar workers. I’ll rank them in the order that management and HR do (worst to best) part time- each hour that you work is payed for with a minimum that you must work. ( low hourly rate since you can add hours) full time (38.5 hours/week) with 20 hours of overtime/ month included in the payment (~175 hours/month) (hourly rate higher than option one) all in (38.5 hours/week) no overtime is payed but higher pay than option 2. I know pay wise in total the last one is the best, but with all the extra hours expected the last one seems to be the worst if I calculate hourly rate. Am I the only one seeing that as you go up in ranking you loose the…

I don’t know where to vent, so I’m posting here.

Story time: I had a job I loved. I was there for 3 years. I don't want to blow smoke up my butt, but I was a solid employee. Yesterday, it all came to an end. Why? The actions of someone else, and HR didn't care. What happened? I failed to act, and HR argued it was a fireable offense on my behalf. I debated to the death, but HR didn't care. Now I'm left here typing on Reddit, feeling completely defeated. How did I fail to act? A low-life, unethical coworker passively-aggressively harassed another coworker behind her back. He was venting to me in private (or so I thought), and his frustration later stooped to attacking her looks. Unbeknownst to me, this was all caught on camera (visual and audio). Management found the tape and pulled both of us into the office. My “edgy” coworker chickened out and resigned…

If you could start a “business” sometime in your life, what would some pro-labor force policies and practices you would implement to keep your “employees” happy?

I put business in quotes because what I'm envisioning is not a traditional business of today's society. Employees is in quotes obviously because if you succeeded I'm treating employees fairly then one would be much more likely to call them partners or equals or peers. So antiwork, how would you do it? I want to do this one day in the future if I ever have the means. Step one, for me, might be something like every single person has equal shares in the “company”, regardless of their job title. Curious what y'all think!

I’m Ready to Start Doing Something About It

So I was thinking about the guy who has been tracking and posting about the Muskrats private jet. There are so many of us here and we all have access to the internet. I think that there's a lot we could do with that. We were able to down Kroger's hiring pages so we know we can make things happen. The best things I can come up with are like spamming so I'm sure some of y'all have some good ideas. I also feel like if we figured out a good marketing strategy and took to facebook we might be able to get some boomers. The fact of the matter is that antiwork benefits everyone except the 1%. The more people we can get to realize that the system is suffocating them, the better. Numbers will be key to any real change. I also think that if we want real…

LinkedIn trend #ShowUsYourLeave is a joke

I want to talk about this recent LinkedIn/Twitter trend of #ShowUsYourLeave where companies post their supposedly amazing benefits in an effort to receive accolades at how well they treat their employees and simultaneously recruit new “talent”. Have you seen this? I’d love to open up a discussion about how these seemingly generous benefits are actually all designed to further lock people into working more and are in fact not benefits at all.
